A version for developers?

Postby aravinthk » Mon Nov 03, 2014 5:43 pm

As a developer i would love to have an OS packed with the best IDEs and programming languages.

Some of my suggestions would be to add

1. Ruby
2. Android Studio
3. nginx
4. PHP
5. MariaDB

Great idea.

We could go a little further by creating developer meta packages. For example:

apt-get install android-developer

Gets you

- android sdk
- and android IDE
- android x86 emulator?
- cordova?

Nice idea!

It would be great to have a package that can take user input and scaffold a customized development enviorment via a series of single and multi select questions.
For instance, a java env package could be like:

apt-get install dev-env-java

Select Java Version:
[1.6]
[1.7]
[1.8]

Select SCM Tool(s):
1) CVS
2) GIT +
3) Mercurial
4) SVN +

Select IDE:
[Eclipse]
[IntelliJ Idea]

Select Build Tool(s):
1) Ant
2) Gradle +
3) Maven +

Select Application/Web Server(s):
1) Glassfish +
2) Jetty
3) Tomcat
4) Wildfly +

Select Database Server(s):
1) MySQL +
2) MariaDB +
3) PostgreSQL
4) MongoDB +
5) Cassandra

Select Reverse Proxy HTTP Server(s):
1) Apache ModProxy +
2) Squid
3) Nginx +
4) HAProxy

Select Web Development Tool(s):
1) NodeJS +
2) Bower +
3) Grunt +
4) Gulp +
5) Yeoman +

Select BI Engine:
[SpagoBI]
[JasperReports]

Select Document Management System:
[Alfresco]
