How to install Netbeans and Mysql in Hamara?

Postby mpsshbagh » Thu Mar 19, 2015 9:20 am

We are using MySQL 5.1 and Netbeans 6.5.1 in Windows.

WE have installed Netbeans 7.0.1 in HAMARA LINUX but we are not able to create JAVA project .
Please let us know the compatible versions for the two (Netbeans and JAVA) for Hamara platform. We have tried combination of Netbeans 7.0.1 withJDK (1.7 , 1.8) which are giving errors as "Format error, can't read the binary file".
We have tried using .TAR file and .sh file (installer) for JAVA installation it is not taking the path of that file even after extraction. It is giving error .

WIP : JDK 1.7.n with Netbeans 8.0
JDK 1.8.n with Netbeans 8.0

In Mysql We need Command prompt for MySQL which is not appearing in Mysql Workbench.
Please suggest the correct Mysql package which contains command prompt for running queries .

Our classes have started so its urgent .Please help.

Hi,

Let's deal with netbeans first. Netbeans is in the hamara linux repo so you can install it in one of two ways.

1) Terminal

Open a terminal and use

sudo apt-get install netbeans

Netbeans and the dependancies will be installed for you. It should automatically install openjdk 7.0.1 as a dependancy so you don't need to do anything else.

Once the install finished you should be able to run netbeans by pressing [SUPER] and typing netbeans.

2) Software Manager

Press [SUPER] and type software

Type netbeans in the search box and press enter

You should find that the software manager selects netbeans for you and you just need to click the install button.

Let us know if this works for you?

We are using MySQL 5.1 and Netbeans 6.5.1 in Windows.
In Mysql We need Command prompt for MySQL which is not appearing in Mysql Workbench.
Please suggest the correct Mysql package which contains command prompt for running queries .
The same approach as above should be followed for mysql-workbench. Installing workbench will install the required mysql dependancies automatically.

1) Terminal

Open a terminal and type the command:

sudo apt-get install mysql-workbench

Once the install finished, you should be able to type [SUPER] and mysql. Workbench should appear as an application that you can now run.

2) Software Manager

Press [SUPER] and type software

Type workbench in the search box and press enter

select mysql workbench from the list and click the install button.

This will install workbench for you.

Do you also need a mysql server installed on the same machine or are you using a central mysql server?

In Mysql We need Command prompt for MySQL
Additionally you can use mysql client directly from the terminal like so:

1. Open a terminal by pressing [super] and typing terminal

2. use the command mysql -h <serveraddress> -u <myusername> -p<mypass> mydb

Hi Vik,

Thanks! for your prompt reply.
Your reply was helpful to us. But there were a few challenges we faced with the JDK version that is already available in the Humara Linux package.

In the Humara package JDK 1.7.0 is provided. On installing it with netbeans 8.0.2 we were getting "JDK installed version is not compatible with netbeans". So, we first uninstalled JDK already installed and then installed JDK 1.7.0_75 in compatible with Netbeans 8.0.2. This combination of JDK 1.7 .0_75 with Netbeans 8.0.2 worked for us.

1) For installing JDK we executed the below command.
sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk
2) For installing Netbeans we executed the below steps :-
*Install Netbeans, create a folder named "netbeans" in the Home directory. Save the file in that folder.
*Now type the below commands in the terminal :-
- cd netbeans
- sudo chmod +x netbeans-*
- sudo -/netbeans-*
*Now Netbeans wizard will get open and With the help of the wizard, Netbeans will get installed.

3) For MySql we were able to successfully install it by using the below command.
sudo apt-get install mysql-server
Once installed successfully, we ran the below command to start the mysql server.
mysql -u root -p

4) To install Turboc we followed the below steps :-
* Install DOSBOX, by executing the below command in the Terminal.
- sudo apt-get install dosbox
- Download C++ zip file, extract it and save it in Home directory.
- Now, open DOSBOX and run the below commands.
* mount c ~
* c:
* cd turboc
* install.exe
- Press enter to continue.
- Change path to C
- Press enter for source path
- Press "Start installation"
- Software will be installed successfully.

Thanks and Regards,

Hi,

Glad that you managed to get over those hurdles.

I think it would be good for the Hamara team to look a bit further at netbeans - we should ensure that you can get the netbeans package from our repository - so that you can install it using apt-get.

You could raise a request on our bug tracker if you would like us to package netbeans 8.02 http://bugs.hamaralinux.org.

I will add your turbo c++ steps to our documentation and post a link back here.
